Fortel® Prostate (PSA) Screening Test is a rapid and easy-to-use lateral flow test to detect human Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) using a finger prick whole blood sample.
PSA is produced by the prostate gland and released into the bloodstream. It is normal to have a small amount of PSA in your blood. This amount rises as you get older and your prostate gets bigger.
A PSA test can detect if your PSA levels are elevated, which gives valuable information about your prostate health. A high PSA level may suggest problems with your prostate such as enlarged prostate, prostatitis, or urinary tract infection. However, an elevated PSA level may also be a sign of prostate cancer.
A PSA blood test can facilitate early detection of prostate cancer, meaning you can get prostate cancer treatment early.
You can find more information about prostate cancer, your risk of prostate cancer and prostate cancer symptoms from our Health Awareness Hub - Prostate Health.
Note: As with all self-testing devices, a definitive diagnosis should not be made on the basis of a single test. The diagnosis should be made by a physician after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated.
You should check your prostate if:
- You have frequent urge to urinate, especially at night
- You have difficulty starting to urinate
- You have a weak urine flow
- You feel like your bladder isn't emptying fully
- You have blood in your urine or semen
Always follow the instructions provided in the package with the test.
In a nutshell:
1. Take a finger prick blood sample (stick your finger with the lancet provided)
2. Place the blood sample into the test device
3. Read your results after 10 minutes
Note: If the test result is positive, see your physician to confirm the result and to possibly obtain treatment. If the test result is negative, but you are not feeling well or if you are concerned about your prostate health, see your physician for further testing and diagnosis.
